## TOTOland Turtles

### Storyline

TOTOland is known as the land of the turtles, a safe haven for turtles of different species. Over time, this safe haven has been threatened by ocean pollutants such as toxic metals and untreated waste. These toxins have mutated into conscious beings like Slimes, and are plotting to submerge TOTOland into the depths of the polluted sea. Humans gathered to assist the turtles to fight against the pollutants, training turtles to be combat ready, an attempt to end the threat of ocean pollution. This game is made to raise awareness of ocean pollution. Sea turtles are vulnerable to ocean pollution at all stages of life, from eggs to hatchlings to juveniles to adults. Pollutants include things like toxic metals, PCB, petroleum products, and agricultural and industrial runoff of contaminants such as fertilizers, chemicals, nutrients, and untreated waste. Pollutants may cause immediate harm to sea turtles through direct contact or can build up in tissues over time and lead to immunosuppression resulting in disease and death. Toxic metals may concentrate in the liver and kidneys of sea turtles. Toxins like mercury also pose a threat to human health. Chronic exposure to pollutants makes sea turtles susceptible to disease and death. Chronically ill turtles are also more vulnerable to predation and collisions with boats.
